Difference between common flu and coronavirus



How can I differentiate between coronavirus and common flu?

Are they both same things or is there some difference?

Structure and mode of transmission:

  • Coronavirus - also known as COVID-19 is a new virus which belongs to family of coronavirus. From 2002 to 2003, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) infected 8,000 people, with a fatality rate of ∼10%.
  • Common flu - Influenza virus A and B cause seasonal flu every year.
  • Mode of transmission - Both viruses transmitted through droplets (cough and sneeze).

Similarity between coronavirus and common flu:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue 
  • Body aches

If you have cough kindly check whether your cough is dry or with sputum. But if you have dry cough and fever then you have to do following things:
  • Isolate yourself 
  • Keep yourself hydrated
  • Take proteins 
  • Treat your cough (can use herbal teas) 
  • Treat your temperature 
  • Do light exercise (don't over do it) 
  • Take rest
  • And most importantly don't be panic.
